Description

Meet your hosts Sheena and Kate at their art deco house built in 1939 that has been renovated into a stylish home. Have a drink by the fire or on the patio before you start your meal. You will get to enjoy a creative, gourmet meal based on local Irish ingredients. Sheena is a big fan of Ottolenghi and her meals are redolent with fresh herbs from thyme and dill to coriander and rosemary. Your three-course meal may include dishes such as smoked salmon or fresh crab with a dill salsa on homemade sourdough or avocado toast with homemade dukkah, rocket and garden herbs and fish en papillote with roasted paprika potatoes, curly kale with pumpkin seeds and a lemon chili jus or roasted mushroom parcel with fresh thyme, roasted fennel and herb barley (for vegetarians!). Your meal will conclude with wild berry quinoa crumble or roasted peaches with orange blossom yoghurt and fresh basil or a cheese board of artisan Irish farmhouse cheese served with membrillo on seed crackers.

Sheena's early cooking memories are of learning how to make butterscotch, fudge and shortbread with her grandmother, a domestic goddess. Preparing, eating and sharing meals was always the centre of family life with meals revolving around everything else. She was throwing dinner parties at the age of 15, and loved nothing more than spending hours in the kitchen preparing a feast. Memories were made of times enjoying food and being together at the table.

Sheena is Irish but has enjoyed extended periods of living abroad in Spain, France, Mozambique, USA, and Australia. The hunt for finding great food around the world goes on, and Sheena likes to bring an exotic flair to her cuisine. A big fan of flavours from the Middle East, mixed up with indigenous Irish ingredients make her dishes a bit atypical and "off the eaten path". Sheena works in a local food business specializing in Mediterranean food products and artisan Irish foods, with a special focus on farmhouse cheese. Her wife Kate is a filmmaker in Dublin.

Please note: Sheena and Kate are pescatarians – they serve fish and seafood but do not serve meat.
