With a few tables and a cozy second-floor locale, the food lovers behind Dublin eatery The Pig's Ear are working hard to change casual dinning in the city centre.
Led by head chef and RTE alum Stephen McAllister, this Nassau street walk-up serves an a la carte menu that's "good, honest Irish fare", with favorites like carrot soup or pork and bacon brawn, given a modern twist.
Ask for a table by the window any time of day for a bird's eye view of busy Nassau street, as well as the wide green swath of neighboring Trinity grounds. Perfect for people watching over a lingering meal, The Pig's Ear is a must-stop for busy shoppers as well as more formal dining.
Lunch time visitors can take their pick from the Pig's generous afternoon menu of soups and terrines, or try fresh and filling main courses such as Grilled Sea trout with Bubble'n'Squeak (an Irish staple mainly consisting of cabbage and potato), roast chicken or duck. With two courses from the set menu ringing up at an affordable €15.95, it seems almost a waste to skip dessert.
A la Carte dining is at its best when the sun goes down, when The Pig's Ear offers a simply delicious dinner menu starring day time favorites with new nighttime choices.
HelloDublin Tip: A succulent shepherds pie, packed with lamb, is a repeat-visit favorite. Topped off with rich brown bread ice cream for dessert, a visit to The Pig is the calming, traditional way to explore modern Irish cuisine.
