Families who play together can enjoy the best of Dublin’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival 2011 beginning March 16. The Dublin St. Patrick’s Day Festival’s calendar of plays, performances and niche experiences aims to engage visitors of all ages who’ve come to Ireland’s capital city in search of a truly Irish experience.
Temple Bar children’s venue, The Ark, stages a four-day exhibition of animal-themed crafts. In conjunction with the exhibition, visitors from 2 to 12 can take part craft workshops on March 19-20 – exploring animal themes using a variety of materials. Most of the workshops, grouped by ages, include a tour of The Ark’s animals-as-craft exhibition, and makes a great age-appropriate stop for smaller St. Patrick’s Festival revelers. While the exhibition is free, workshop spaces are €10 per ticket and can be booked through The Ark.
Families on the go will connect to Ireland’s patron saint on Dublin walking tour “In the Footsteps of St. Patrick,”
taking to the streets every day at 2 p.m. March 16-19. Packed with city connections to Patrick himself as well as early Christian landmarks, including St. Patick’s Cathedral, St. Audoen’s Church – the city’s oldest parish church – as well as Christ Church Cathedral. Tickets are €10 and should be booked in advance with Walking Tours of Dublin.
At noon March 19 only, an Architectural Family Tour of Dublin will stroll the streets to inspire younger visitors’ appreciation of Dublin’s famous Georgian architecture. Games, stories and more will keep the focus on fun during the tour’s exploration of Merrion Square and beyond. Tickets are €10, €5 for children – bookings are by e-mail only.
Along with free events, including daily fun fairs and the March 20 Big Day Out, Dublin’s St. Partick’s Festival offers families the best in excitement, culture and activity in the city centre.
