Still in its first year, The Point Village Market is part of a continuing revival of the once strictly working-class Dublin docklands.
This still-growing collection of food stalls, first and second-hand clothing sellers, crafts tables, jewelry makers, tarot card readers and more rub shoulders with the massive Gig Rig – where local bands create a soundtrack for weekend shoppers – yard sale-style sellers, students auditioning any number of creations, plus the newly opened Dublin Big Wheel.
Planted at the feet of the well established O2 Point Depot concert venue, the market is easily accessible from Connolly station, Busuras depot and local bus links, as well as a LUAS stop right on the doorstep. City Centre cyclists and cars will find reaching the market easy, although this weekly event is best enjoyed when not worrying about locking up or parking.
The market opens at 9am Saturday and Sunday and is in full swing by 12. Visitors are advised to come hungry, as the ever changing roster of food stalls (with a few permanent favorites) includes popular UK brand Pie Minister, Dick and Dave's Wood Fired Pizza plus German BBQ pro Fire and Food. Those looking for a light snack can take their pick of fudge shops, cupcake stalls and carb-friendly bakeries including The Baking House and Urbun.
Whether in the market for vintage vinyl LPs, new handbags, jewelry or shoes, Market sellers offer selections worth browsing. When the wallet is lighter and the shopping bags are full, cruise to a stop by the Chatting Chair – an installation built to inspire a new generation of Dubliners to embrace the gift of gab. If weary, footsore or just in need of some personal time, Willow Well Being and other holistic healers offer alternative therapies to take the shopping stress away.
Visitors are encouraged to bring ready cash with them, as neither the market, O2 Point Depot or neighboring Gibson hotel offer local ATM points. While attendance numbers rely entirely on weather this outdoor Market is open, rain or shine, from late spring.
